Médecins du Monde (MdM) is an international, medical humanitarian, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that provides emergency medical care to victims of natural disasters, wars and conflicts.

MdM employs medical, paramedical as well as technical and logistical personnel to carry out its humanitarian assistance activities in the field. The guiding principle underlying MdM's activities is that every human being has a right to humanitarian assistance, irrespective of their race, religion, ideology or political persuasion.

MdM is an independent NGO whose modus operandi is characterised by its swift and targeted delivery of humanitarian assistance to populations in danger. MdM is, therefore, guided by the principles of neutrality and impartiality. Being neutral, however, does not preclude MdM from speaking out about human rights abuses witnessed in the field. Where possible MdM will draw attention to such abuses either by means of silent diplomacy or through the media.

The Greek delegation
Médecins du Monde-Greece was founded in 1990 and is part of the international network of MdM which is consisted of 12 delegation offices in the world (Belgium, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom). At the same time, though, it remains a truly Greek organisation. It travels its own path based on special circumstances of Greece, by maintaining financial and administrative independence. Completing 17 years of action in 2007, MdM-Greece has established itself in the mind of our fellow citizens as a trustworthy and reliable organisation that promotes the humanitarian aspect of Greece. With dozens of humanitarian medical assistance missions in Greece and the developing countries, Greek doctors, medical staff, administrators and logisticians offer their services voluntarily.

During all these years, more than 600 volunteers have been present in more than 70 countries of the world providing medical and humanitarian aid. MdM-Greece has realised missions in Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Serbia, Sudan, Pelestine, etc.

As an organisation, MdM is collaborating with other international NGOs in the field aiming to provide effective humanitarian aid to the populations in need.

Médecins du Monde-Greece, maintaining their autonomy, both operational and financial, organizes and finances missions, via the Greek department, translating the sentiments of solidarity and humanism of the Greek society, in direct humanitarian aid to populations.

Where we intervene
When an urgent crisis bursts in the planet, the situations that we are called to respond require the undertaking of a direct and appropriate action, aiming to provide effective medical and humanitarian help to populations that have been affected by:

• Armed conflicts / wars
• Epidemics
• Natural disasters
• Famines

Our resources
Médecins du Monde-Greece is a non-profit organisation, relying on the commitment of volunteers and the financial support of its donors. The resources that emanate mainly from donations of individuals ensure the independence and the effectiveness of our action. Sources of financing:

• Subscriptions and donations of members and donors of the organisation. These constitute the corner stone of the organisation. Members and supporters of the organisation, individuals who support our work. Anonymous citizens that in every appeal contribute to the sustainability of our missions.
• Sponsoring from companies and institutions. We look for sponsors from companies and private institutions who will help us support our projects.
• European Union's funds, national or international organisations funds. The institutional donors are the main sponsors of our missions in the developing countries.
